Maharashtra, a state that has had significant political splits, reconciliations, unrest, and shifting alliances among parties over the past four years, is once more volatile. This time, a remark made by a senior Congressman and former chief minister has drawn criticism. This leader is confident that the BJP would install NCP chief Ajit Pawar as the new CM.

On Monday, Prithviraj Chavan reaffirmed his conviction that the BJP high command had chosen to install deputy CM Ajit Pawar as the state's new chief minister since the party could not possibly hope to compete with the people in the 2024 Lok Sabha election with incumbent CM Eknath Shinde.

Senior BJP leader and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis was eager to put an end to the rumor as soon as it started. Ajit Pawar, according to Fadnavis, was informed of his ineligibility for the position of chief minister during talks that took place before to July 2.

WHAT SUGGESTED PRITHVIRAJ CHAVAN?

A decision about the disqualification of CM Shinde and 15 additional Shiv Sena MLAs would be made around August 10, according to comments made by Chavan to a local news outlet on Monday.

The current Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar would be appointed as the chief minister around August 10 after it was decided to disqualify Shinde and other MLAs, the former chief minister claimed.

Additionally, Chavan stated that Shinde "wields no influence outside of his home district of Thane" and that this is why the BJP is not eager to support him in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Ajit Pawar is now a viable alternative for the BJP. Shinde's outcome is as described. According to what the senior BJP leadership understands, they intend to elect Ajit Pawar as chief minister and call for elections, he continued.

REACTION OF DEVENDRA FADNAVIS TO CHAVAN'S STATEMENT

In response to Chavan's assertion, Fadnavis remarked, "I am formally telling you that Ajit Pawar will not become the chief minister of Maharashtra. I am the leader of the single largest party (BJP) in 'Mahayuti' (grand coalition).

By August 10, he only mentioned the possibility of expanding the Cabinet. Ajit Pawar was clearly informed that he would not be appointed chief minister at meetings of "Mahayuti" (prior to the NCP faction's entrance into the cabinet on July 2), the deputy chief minister told reporters.

Ajit Pawar, according to Fadnavis, was given a full explanation of the power-sharing arrangement and consented to it. He added that Ajit had made it clear in his address that there was no discussion of changing the guard in Maharashtra in addition to agreeing to it.

Prithviraj Chavan was ignored by Fadnavis for allegedly spreading rumors. "They ought to quit making 'Mahayuti' people confused. Leaders are not perplexed, but party members often are. People who spread rumors include Prithviraj Chavan. The state Cabinet would be expanded by August 10 if anything were to happen. It would be decided by the CM, he said.

POLITICS IN MAHARASHTRA HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED

On July 2, Ajit Pawar and eight Nationalist Congress Party legislators joined the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition. The MLAs were sworn in as ministers as Ajit Pawar took the oath of office as deputy chief minister. Later, Sharad Pawar's nephew received the crucial finance department. Ajit Pawar's appointment to the government, according to Shinde, posed no threat to him.

WHY THIS AJIT PAWAR SPECULATION, YOU ASK?

The Hindu reports that when Shinde made two trips to Delhi in less than a week, rumors regarding him and the future of his Shiv Sena group, which experienced "unrest" following Ajit Pawar's shocking admission into the ruling administration, grew more intense.

The NCP leader's followers released banners and ran television ads on July 22 to celebrate his 64th
birthday, the report stated, praising him as the State's future chief executive officer.

The Hindu went on to say that a tweet by Amol Mitkari, a close ally of Ajit Pawar and an NCP MLC, declaring that "the Ajit era had begun" fueled rumors that Ajit Pawar will succeed as the state's next chief executive officer.
